(The Breeze Blew Upon Us) Fairouz

This classic Fairouz song first appeared in the 1968 film Bint al-Hares, where Fairouz plays a girl trying to save her father’s job as a guard by going on a crime spree — thus proving that the village still needs his services.

The breeze blew upon us from the turn in the valley
O breeze, dear breeze, take me back home
O breeze, o you who are flying in the breeze
There’s a wallflower, a window and a picture — take me to them, sweet breeze
My heart is afraid to grow up in this exile, where my native land doesn’t know me
Take me, take me, take me back home
What’s wrong? What’s wrong, my love?
We were inseparable, you used to always stay with us, and now we’ve parted. What happened?
The sun is still crying at the door and doesn’t speak, the breeze of my home country speaks
Take me, take me, take me back home
